Julia Au and Jennifer Matthews spent their youth at 111 Mercer with their aunt, a legendary New York City set designer, immersed in design and the fantastical world of film and television production sets. 111 Mercer was a place of imagination, dreams, and possibilities, a place where Julia and Jennifer first discovered how every element in a room contributed to transforming spaces. It was here where they learned how important the details and final touches are, and where they started to nurture an early passion for interiors.

111 Mercer instilled in them a deep curiosity about the world, and an enthusiasm for learning. It was a place where visions metamorphosized into reality, a foundational element of set design. The demands of building new environments through set production fostered a need for a beautiful, quality, high-functioning wallpaper which could be changed with ease. With their aunt, Julia and Jennifer co-founded Tempaper in 2008, bringing a patented, removable peel and stick wallcovering to market which had not previously existed, revolutionizing set design and adding an incredible new offering to the wallcovering industry.
